At Sandbrook Community Primary School, we empower pupils to become confident communicators, avid readers, and skilled writers, fostering a lifelong love of literacy and equipping them with the tools to excel.
Our ambition is that Sandbrook pupils will leave our school as confident and enthusiastic readers, writers, and speakers. They will have developed a rich and extensive vocabulary, enabling them to comprehend complex texts and express themselves with clarity and precision. They will read widely and often, fostering a lifelong love of reading across a range of genres, including fiction, non-fiction and poetry. They will be able to discuss their reading with insight, offering thoughtful interpretations and participating in respectful discussion.
Our pupils will be skilled writers, capable of crafting engaging narratives, persuasive and balanced arguments and informative reports. They will develop a clear and legible penmanship alongside the ability to adapt their writing style for different purposes and audiences, demonstrating a strong command of grammar, punctuation and spelling.
They will be confident in their ability to plan, draft, revise and edit their work, producing high-quality pieces that showcase their creativity and critical thinking. Furthermore, our pupils will be articulate and confident speakers, able to express their ideas clearly and persuasively in a variety of contexts. They will participate actively in discussions, listen attentively to others, and present their work with clear articulation and confidence. They will be equipped with the communication skills necessary to succeed in their future academic and personal lives.
